An 8% Nursing Shortage. Still No Interviews?
Transcript
The Health Resources and Services Administration projects an 8% shortfall in registered nurses for 2026. If your applications are still going unanswered, both things can be true at once.
A national shortage is an average. You don't work in the country. You work in one metro, in one or two specialties, on one license. The national number is real. It just isn't about you.
Split that same projection by geography. Outside metro areas, there are projected to be 75% of the nurses needed. Inside them, 95%. Same country, two different markets.
So check your own market, not the headline: your specialty, your metro, and how long the listing has been open.
A posting that's been open for months, in a specialty you hold, tells you more than any national number. Either that employer can't find someone, or nobody means to fill it. Find out which, and start there. The full piece is There Is a Nursing Shortage. That Fact Is Useless to You.
