Portugal's Nomad Visa Needs More Income Than Spain's

Portugal has a lower average price level than Spain or Italy. Its digital nomad visa asks for more monthly income than either. This short shows the numbers and the rule behind them.

Here is the monthly income each country requires in 2026. Italy: under €2,100. Spain: under €2,900. Portugal: €3,680.

That is not an accident. Portugal sets its bar at four times its minimum wage. Spain ties its bar to its minimum wage too, but at two times. So even with a lower minimum wage, Portugal asks for more, and its bar rises every time the wage does.

So if you earn €3,000 a month, you qualify for Spain's nomad visa. You don't qualify for Portugal's. Same income, different answer.

These numbers can change every year. Before you fall for a country, check its income bar with the consulate. The full comparison, with every source, is in Portugal Has Lower Average Prices Than Spain or Italy. Its Nomad Visa Asks for More Income Than Either.
